Malawi’s Fredrick Matress wins NextGen Franchising Award in USA

Youthful entrepreneur and Honey Products Industries managing director, Fredrick Matress,has been decorated with the 2017 NextGen Franchising Award at the 57th Annual Convention of International Franchise Association recently held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Nextgen is a brain child of the International Franchising Association (IFA) which aims at mentoring and honoring young entrepreneurs with franchising business models across the world.

Matress told Nyasa Times  that he was honored with the decoration which also other 17 enterprises being decorated out of 600 applications.

He said the award will “help me engage my fellow youth for them to realize and maximize their business potentials.”

The youthful Matress added: “This is an energizer [for me] to work towards a fully franchising business by incorporating more youths.”

Matress,  who is into honey selling business, said the incorporation will include helping the youths to win and operate by selling modern bee-keeping equipment which will maximize profits on their part.

At the gala where 4 000 delegates from across the world attended, entrepreneurs from South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria and Cameroon were awarded.

The rest were from the US and Europe.

Matress founded Honey Products Industries in 2014 – a social enterprise – that works with Impact Agribusiness to commercialize small-scale honey producers in Malawi.

The company’s mission is to engage the youth to create a sustainable value chain out of high-quality organic honey, while producing triple bottom line social, economic and environmental impact in communities where it has a presence.

With seven full time employees, 20 mini franchisee and working with 2,500 beekeepers, the company also does beekeeping extension services, as well as the production and selling of modern beekeeping equipment to local smallholder farmers.
