Malawi’s Radio Islam workers abandon salaries

There was drama at Radio Islam Tuesday Morning when workers one by was coming from the payments room grumbling after management cut their salaries for reporting late at the station last month.

Inside sources told Nyasa Times that the station director Muhammad Osman introduced the log book three month ago on his own without consulting the workers on the issue.

They also say Osman a Sudanese national who was dismissed from a local Islamic institution, Dawa Islamic for mistreating workers, didn’t tell the workers that they will have their salaries cut if they report late at work.

“We already get meager salaries here for the management to cut it without our prior knowledge is an insult. We don’t know what our boss thinks of us while he himself who also usually come late, take home a huge amount of money tax free.”

The sources say it is pity that all the days they have deducted the salaries they were all working and most of them start their works according to their departmental schedules.

“How could you expect one who starts work at 12 noon for example to come at 7:30 just to sign? This is inhuman”.

They argue that they are not against the log book but the militant approach on the issue by Osman, who is the former soldier in the SPLO army.

However administrator Fatima Jafali refused to comment on the issue when Nyasa Times contacted her saying she acts upon instructions from her boss.

Osman could not be reached.
