Malawi’s Solomonic partners German theatre group

One of Malawi’s theatre groups, Solomonic Peacocks has forged a corporate partnership with a German theatre group called Fräulein Wunder that would see the local arts grouping enjoying international theatrical exposure.

The partnership would be first of its kind for local theatre industry and is looked upon as a development that would advance and promote local talent to international stardom.

Solomonic Peacocks Director MacArthur Matukuta said currently they were working on modalities of partnership and described the initiative as timely and prospective.

“This is our first step into international theatre arena. We expect the partnership to bring in a lot of exciting things apart from exposing the local actors. We, as a group, are excited and very committed to sustain this partnership for the benefit of both countries, Malawi and German,” Matukuta said.

And on its on part, Fräulein Wunder, said it was looking forward to the cooperation and had already developed some ideas for the partnership.

“I’m very happy about ideas for the first steps of our cooperation! Sounds great! We developed some ideas for our partnership as well already…Just knows that we are also very passionate about our cooperation,” explained Malte Pfeiffer member of Fräulein Wunder -who are currently in Austria on a performance tour.

The partnership aside, Solomonic Peacocks is also expected to travel to Zambia for a series of performances next year.

According to Matukuta the group would leave the country in April for Zambia where they had been invited by that country’s theatre group called Yezi Arts.

“We expect to perform in Lusaka and Copperbelt between April 1 and April 8 next year. The invitation came following our discussion with Yezi in Blantyre recently during Blantyre Arts festival. Currently rehearsals are under way in preparation for the shows. We want to give out best performances and market Malawi talent across the boarder,” Matukuta explained.

Solomonic Peacocks is one of the surviving egnlsih theatre groups following the demise of Wakhumbata Ensemble Theatre and Wanna Do Ensemble Theatre that were prominent arts groups as far as English plays are concerned.

And it’s working partnerships with international arts groups put it at par with Nanzikambe Arts Theatre which is also working with several international theatre groups including some in German.
