Malawi Police at Balaka are keeping in custody a 31 year old man for allegedly being found with a rifle and rounds of blank ammunition without a licence.
Balaka police spokesperson sub inspector Joseph Sauka says the suspect Emmanuel William 31 was arrested after Police received a tip that the suspect was selling a rifle.
“Upon receiving the information Police officers posed as buyers and met the suspect who offered them the rifle at the price of K200, 000.00.
“He then handed over the rifle to the alleged buyers who wanted to see it if it was indeed a genuine rifle and just after receiving the rifle; the officers arrested him and recovered the rifle “revolver webley pistol” and 3 rounds of blank ammunition for AK47 rifle,” says Sauka.
Meanwhile, the suspect is still in Police custody as investigations are still under way and is expected to appear before court soon where he will answer a case of found in possession of a rifle without licence.
Emmanuel William comes from Kunena village, Traditional Authority Kalembo in Balaka district but was residing at Soche in Blantyre city.
