According to Police findings, Theu who owned a Bottle store borrowed a sum of half a million kwacha from the Village Bank Group he joined within the village.

Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer(PRO) Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi informed Nyasa Times on Tuesday that Theu failed to meet the deadline for servicing of the loan, which was on said Monday, a thing which prompted the group members to follow him to his house to grab his property.

“Upon arrival at the deceased’s house, the members found his daughter who lied that his father wasn’t at home despite being inside the house.

“A few hours after they had left, the daughter went to check at the bedroom where she found him hanging from the roof,” said the PRO, adding that the matter was reported at Makokola Police Unit.

Officers from the unit rushed to the scene and took the dead body to Koche Health Centre where suffocation has been indicated as the cause of death, she said.

Police are therefore appealing to the public to refrain from taking their own lives whenever they face challenges in life. They should rather seek counselling or share issues to colleagues, advises Tepani Daudi.

Philip Theu hailed from Kela Village Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
