Man dies after binge drinking on empty stomach
A 35-year-old man has died in Malawi’s central lakeshore district of Nkhotakota after taking excessive local spirit commonly known as Kachasu in an empty stomach.
Nkhotakota Police Publicist, Kaitano Lubrino, has confirmed the death of James Kandikole which occurred in the district on January 24, 2014.
The police spokesperson said the deceased who was a Kachasu addict left his home early in the day for his beer drinking spree within the village.

He said after realising that he had taken enough, the deceased silently left the drinking den without bidding farewell to his friends.
“The deceased started drinking beer with friends around 7.00am. Later, he left the place alone without saying goodbye to his friends and when they realised that he was missing, his colleagues started hunting him until they discovered his dead body at a nearby bush,” explained Lubrino.
An eye witness Yeresiya Masaiti reported the matter to Nkhotakota Police who went to the scene and collected his body to Nkhotakota District Hospital.
Postmortem conducted at the district hospital indicated that the man died due to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) as a result of taking alcohol excessively with an empty stomach.
