Man drowns, dies at Black Rhyno show

Tragic – 21-year old Elvis Kamfutso died on Sunday after drowning in a swimming pool at Shire Highlands Hotel in Blantyre during the Black Rhyno Entertainment urban music show.

Both Police and the organizers have confirmed of the incident, which happened on Sunday afternoon during the show dubbed ‘Summer Love’.

“I can’t say what really happened but it’s true that the guy got drowned in the pool. And somebody just called me this morning saying the person had died,” said Kumbu of Black Rhyno Entertainment in an interview.

Kamfutso, who hails from Kachere Village, Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre “died suddenly around 6pm after he drowned in the swimming pool,” according to Limbe Police publicist Chifundo Chibwezo.

Chibwezo told Nyasa Times in an interview on Monday that a post-mortem carried at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital showed that the deceased, who according to other reports “was drunk” and had fainted the time people got him out of the pool.

Investigations by Nyasa Times further reveal that Kamfutso “playfully” jumped in the pool twice and was, on both occasions, pulled out by the audience.

However, the audience did not rescue him on the third attempt and was only pulled out by a well wisher who jumped in the pool after Kamfutso was noticed to have drowned.

Despite the incident, the show continued with hip-hop icon Tay Grin on stage and it was some members of the audience who rushed him to the hospital in an attempt to save his life.
