Man in for sexual assault on a 12- year-old girl
A 12-year-old girl was the victim of a sexual assault and then impregnated in Zingwangwa Township, Blantyre.
A 20 year old man, Daniel Kamoto is currently on remand at Chichiri prison and has been charged in connection with the defilement.
Kamoto who hails from Chesomba village, T/A Somba in Blantyre was nabbed on January 12 this year
However, Kamoto who appeared before Blantyre Magistrates Court on Tuesday has denied the charge, arguing the victim, a standard five pupil, was her girlfriend.
Kamoto told the court that he had been dating the girl (name withheld) since last year and that she had been to his residence on many occasions.
According to police report filed in the court, it was the girl’s mother who reported the issue to police after noticing that the girl was 3 months pregnant. Upon questioning, the girl mentioned Kamoto as responsible.
The court denied the suspect bail for fear of jeopardizing the case.
Kamoto works for Thoko Computer World in the township.

In related development another man, Lyson Masangwi 30 years old is on remand at Chichiri prison for defiling a 13 years old girl in Mbayani Township, Blantyre between the months of August and September this year.
The girl (name withheld) is a standard five pupil at Mbayani primary school and is currently for months pregnant.
Case details
Masangwi is said to have defiled the girl on several occasion by threat. He said to have told the girl not to reveal the incidents to any person or will either kill her or report her to the police.
The police report discloses it was on September 9th when the girl’s parents became suspicious after noticing some changes on her body.
“The parents decided to take her for medical examination at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) where she was tested 4 months pregnant.”
In his defence, Masangwi despite accepting to have had sex with the girl on several occasions told the court they-him and the girl-were in love relationship.
However, the girl’s mother, Florence Majidu in her testimony told the court she was not aware of the alleged relationship and that all she knew was that Masangwi was once their neighbor.
Majidu told the court that her daughter was afraid to reveal about the defilement because of Masangwi’s threats.
Masangwi comes from Mbwalela village T/A Nsabwe in Thyolo District. The case has been adjourned to November 25 for further hearing.
