Man jailed 18 years over cutting wife’s private part tissue for rituals

The Lilongwe Resident Magistrate Court on Tuesday sentenced 40-year-old Rodrick Medson to 18 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour for cutting off his wife’s private part tissue.

The court heard that on 12 March Medson strangled his wife, Cecilia Medson, as they were going to the garden and that the latter lost conscious.

Medson then cut off his wife’s labia which he told the court he had wanted to use as a concoction (Fumba) to multiply his harvest, as per instructions from a witchdoctor from Nsalu whom Medson had approached.

Medson’s wife, according to Prosecutor Sgt. Caphas Mwangonde, of Lilongwe Police who handled the case, was later assisted by community members who reported the matter to police before they rushed her to hospital.

It wasn’t until March 30 that Medson, who had been on the run, was arrested by Nsalu police on the charges of extracting human tissue from a living person contrary to section 224(A) of the Penal Code (Amendment No 31 of 2016), according to Mwangonde.

The prosecutor prayed that Medson should be given a stiff punishment for the offence considering that the woman whose tissue he had extracted would live with the defect and emotional pain for the rest of her life.

“He deserves a punishment that will deter others from committing a similar offence in the future,” said Mwangonde.

Senior Resident Magistrate, Shyreen Odala Yona then slapped Medson with the 18-year jail term.

Medson hails from Group Village Headman Msonthi, Traditional Authority Kabudula in Lilongwe and he has five children with Cecilia, and five others from a previous marriage, according to Prosecutor Mwangonde.
