Man killed over a sex worker in Malawi: Suspect held

Police in Malawi’s central region district of Nkhotakota have arrested a 28 year old man for allegedly killing his friend after the duo engaged in a fight over a sex worker at Mwansambo Trading centre.

According to Police, the deceased’s mother Annesi Umali discovered the body of his first born son Thaulo Fanuelo laying dead some metres outside the bar with multiple wounds in the wee hours on March 2, 2013.

Nkhotakota Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Kaitano Lubrino confirmed the development to Nyasa Times.

He said the suspect Mphatso Chunga on 1st March, 2013 went to attend a funeral ceremony of his relative at Chaola village, but before he reached to the place, he diverted to Mada Mapulanga’s Bar at the trading centre to drink beer with his friends.murder_mystery-puzzle

“Whilst there at around 2300 hours it is alleged that they quarreled over a sex worker at the bar but they went outside to try to talk it over the bar the suspect stabbed his collegu to death,” Lubrino said.

A post mortem report from Mwansambo Health Centre revealed that death occurred due to multiple wounds on the head and on the neck which resulted to heavy loss of blood.

Police have since charged Chunga with murder contrary to section 209 of the penal code despite the fact that Chunga told Police caution statement he was trying to defend himself.

The suspect hails from Chiliwiyo village, Traditional Authority Vuso Jere in Ntchisi district.
