Man kills three year old son for demanding food
Police at Kafukule in Mzimba District have arrested a 26 year old man for allegedly beating his three year old son to death after he demanded food.
Mzimba Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Gift Nyirongo confirmed the development , saying the suspect Naisi Kaira of Phillip Kaira village, Traditional Authority Mtwalo in the district pounced on the boy after coming from a drinking spree.
According to Nyirongo, the suspect and his wife divorced a month ago but the suspect got custody of the child.
“On the fateful day, the suspect came back home around 7 pm and found the deceased crying for food since he didn’t leave any for him. He got annoyed and he started assaulting the deceased and later took him to bed to sleep.
“In the morning he discovered that the child was dead. He notified his mother who reported to the matter to the village headman. Later, Police were called,” the police spokesman said.
A Post-mortem report revealed internal bleeding as cause of death.
Police have since charged the suspect with “murder” contrary to section 208 of the Penal Code. The offence attracts a maximum penalty of life imprisonment with hard labour.
Mzimba has so far registered 21 murder cases since the beginning of 2013, Nyirongo said.
