Man who stabbed to death pal in pub brawl arrested

Malasi Police in Phalombe district are keeping in custody a 23-year-old man, Steven Nampinga for allegedly stabbing to death a colleague at a beer drinking joint.

Phalombe police Public Relations Officer, Augustus Nkhwazi said Nampinga committed the offence on Saturday 12th August, 2017. He stabbed to death Wyson Mbalule 31 years old with a knife.

“On this day, at around 6pm both the deceased and suspect were taking beer at a local beer-hall within Mangoza village T/A Mkhumba in Phalombe. In the course, the two picked a quarrel and the suspect excused himself from the quarrel by running away,” explained Nkhwazi.

“It is alleged the deceased followed the suspect and caught up with him. A fight broke out between the two. In the course of the fight, it is believed that the deceased produced a knife with intention to stab the suspect but suspect grabbed it and stabbed the deceased instead around the neck.”

Victim was rushed to Phalombe Health Centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Postmortem revealed he died due to internal bleeding.

Nampinga is expected to appear before court soon on murder charge contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.

Mbalule hailed from Mangoza village T/A Mkhumba while Nampinga hails from Chanasa village T/A Mkhumba in Phalombe.

Going by the story, the accused was self-defending himself and therefore not guilty.

It is difficult to believe this version of the story because it can be manufactured to save the suspect since the other guy is dead and can not refute the cooked story. By the way I hate the use of words like suspect, alleged. Someone has committed a crime and everyone around the place has witnessed it and yet he is called a suspect. Why?

So will that be considered as murder or man slaughter since the suspect was just trying to protect himself from that angry deceased person, I understand u have said the suspect excused himself from the fight and the deceased followed him. even the knife was for the deceased himself. Akungoyenela kukakana mlandu wa murder and answer to man slaughter otherwise atha kukagwila jail as if it was intentional.
