Mangochi Police engage stakeholders ahead of festive season

The Officer-in-Charge for Mangochi Police Station Senior Assistant Commissioner of PoliceTimothy Phiri has appealed to various stakeholders in the district to work hand in hand with the police to ensure a crime-free festive season.

The call was made on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Mangochi Town Council Multi-purpose Hall ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities, according to the Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi.

Many people in Malawi flock to the Lake district of Mangochi to enjoy themselves during this period.

Speaking to the audience comprising representatives from various banks, lodges, resorts, business owners and Non-Governmental Organisations, Phiri assured them of maximum security during the entire period and beyond.

He said that his officers are working around the clock patrolling, conducting sweeping exercises, snap roadblocks, traffic checks and border patrols to ensure that no criminal activities are taking place.

He advised the gathering against harbouring criminals and also have records of their guests to ensure that criminals do not take advantage of the season by posing as clients.

“Do not keep huge sum of money in your houses or business places, whatever sales you make, make sure you deposit the money with the bank in good time,” he advised.

In his speech, the Chief Executive Officer for Mangochi Municipal Council Abubakar Nkhoma encouraged the stakeholders to follow crime prevention measures by ensuring that their places are well secured.

He also promised that his office will close all loop holes in his area and ensure that municipal guidelines are followed at all times.

Echoing the same, the Supervisor for Mount Meru Filling Station Madalitso Square commended the Police for reducing crime in the district.

He said that Police visibility in the district is not questionable and citizens are able to conduct their businesses peacefully.

The stakeholders pledged to support the Police in order to conduct their operations without difficulties.

During last year’s festive season five people lost their lives in the three road accidents, which happened in the district.
