UTM Party patron Noel Masangwi said Malawians must do away with politics of hate and violence on July 2 by voting into government the Tonse Alliance whose torchbearer is Dr Lazarus Chakwera in order to shame the people that are holding this country hostage and preventing social and economic development.
Masangwi was speaking to a group of over 150 chiefs at Village Headman Liwonde T/A Liwonde in Machinga on Saturday, May 9 when he welcomed to UTM former MP for the area, Ellock Maotcha Banda who has since joined UTM.
He said the coming to UTM of Maotcha Banda is an indication that people in Machinga have now realised that it is only the UTM and the Tonse Alliance that has real solutions to the daily challenges facing people in the district.
He urged the people to shake off the hang mentality that Machinga belongs to UDF.
Maotcha therefore urged the people to vote Chakwera, in the forthcoming fresh elections slated for July 2 to do away with corruption, nepotism, regionalism, cronyism; lack of medicine in hospitals that have come to define the DPP reign.
In his words, Maotcha Banda said he made the decision to join UTM because he knows it is the only vehicle through which Machinga district can be genuinely developed.
He urged all the people in the district to open up and not to be perpetually hoodwinked by failed politicians under the guise of ‘wakumangwetu’, and in his words Village Headman Liwonde said his compound is open to anyone who wants to bring development to his people and will not discriminate on the basis of patrician politics like what other politicians are urging him to do.
Earlier in the afternoon group of UDF and DPP thugs attacked Masangwi at Liwonde Township on his way to the meeting. They blocked his car and attempted to set it ablaze; they snatched phones and made away with UTM cloths and flags. They also beat up UTM regional Governor for the Eastern region, Alhaj Sande and Regional Director of Youth, Henderson Waya, and broke the windscreen of their vehicle.
UTM leader Saulos Chilima Chilima strongly condemned this political violence at the rally held at Mzuzu Stadium today, May 10, and has singled our former President, Bakili Muluzi as instigator-in-chief of the violence in the region under the alias that it is the UDF stronghold…
