Maseko Ngonis hold national get together event
While living away from their homes of origin and currently dwelling in the towns, Maseko Ngonis have organised a get together party, slated for 27 March, 2016 to be held in Lilongwe at Government Primary School ground.
According to Fred Chinkondenji the organizing chairperson the event has been organised to allow people who only chat on the social media to interact and dine together.
“We have lots of Masekos on the Whatsapp and Facebook, but they neither physically know each other nor participate in the events in our societies, this time we want to face them. They have financially contributed which has enabled this event to take place.”
Chinkondenji further said that the function is expected to be attended by over four hundred people both from the social forums and those on the ground.
He continued that, “We are working tirelessly to preserve our cultural values despite living distances away from home. People must not forget to dance Ngoma, Uyeni, Nkhwendo and Ligubo.”
Chinkondenji pointed out that most of Ngonis tend to copy foreign cultures more especially those living in towns a thing which has seen Ngoni cultural values getting eroded.
“Modernisation is killing our cultural values and beliefs. This is one factor we are concerned with hence the major agenda of organizing this gathering to revamp and impart in the Ngoni youngsters the real Ngoni way of living.”
Chinkondenji then called upon parents to ensure that their children are allowed to participate in the Ngoni cultural forums both on social media and on the local venues available in all towns.
The function is expected to be attended by Maseko ngoni from Mzuzu, Blantyre, Mwanza, Dedza, Dowa Balaka, and Lilongwe chapters and will be graced by Andrew Kamlopa Chisale, the new broom of Maseko Ngoni Lilongwe chapter chairmanishp.
He added, “Distinguished guests like Doctors, Professors, Members of Parliament and Traditional Authorities have been kindly invited to come and participate. Ngoni books, cloths, poems and history will be available and recited on the day. ”
Asking him what positive impacts the social media has since registered Chinkondenji said that, “We have teachers of Isizulu or Isingoni on the forums who have already taken us far in terms of communicating in our Ngoni language. Now people can greet and talk proudly in Isingoni something which was not there before the existence of this forum. We commend out teachers for job well done.”
Rhoda White, responsible for dressing style on the day told the reporter that this function is one of the most colorful Maseko Ngoni events in the history.
“We are complementing what our senior leaders are doing on the ground, we need to dress in the Ngoni style which many have recently abandoned for foreign dressing styles,” said White adding one of the key agendas of the forums is to ease communication.
“We attend, funerals, cheer the sick in the hospitals once communication on the forum comes. Every Maseko Ngoni is therefore encouraged to come to the function to interact, this will cement our relationship,” she observed.
This initiative comes at a time when Inkosi ya Makhosi Gumede, Mswati Willard Gomani V, has been touting for unity of all Maseko Ngonis from Mozambique, Tanzania and host Malawi to rekindle Isizulu language and other cultural values.
Maseko Ngonis hold their annual cultural function at Nkolimbo in Ntcheu called ‘Ulmhlangano’ on the first Saturday of September.

Kkkkkkkkkk! I laught my lungs out when the ngoni of Malawi call themselves courageous warriors. I mean, how can somebody who covered thousands of kilometers running away from Shaka claim to be a courageous warrior? If you want to judge the character or a true ngoni warrior just look at the distance covered. Cowards covered a lot of distance and resorted to killing peaceful tribes of Central Africa who were not ready for warfare.
Ndichimodzimodzi, mamuna kuthawa ndeu ku bottlestore, ndikumakamenya mkazi ndi ana panyumba. Mashasa anatsalira ku Jozi komkuno ndikumalimbana ndi Shaka head on.
#3 – the dilution of aNgoni culture and the loss of isiNgoni on the periphery of the aNgoni nation is typical of successful African expansionist empires.
Wherever aNgoni impis went, they slew the men of the weaker nations, took their cattle, and married their women. Naturally, the children of these forced marriages learned the tongues of their mothers.
Imperialism both enriches and adulterates the expansionist culture.
I didn’t know that the Ngonis have their own language, Ngonis from Ntcheu speak chichewa, Ngobis from Mzimba speak Tumbuka, those from Thyolo speak Lhomwe n Ngonis from Mchinji speak senga, whats wrong with these people
What about our friends who are under Paramount Chief Kyungu in Chitipa and Karonga do they have their own cultural grouping ? It is sad that the Paramount Chief Kyungu is busy involved in to other tribes big traditional ceremonies which he doesn’t miss to attend , he goes as far as Kulamba Chewa Ceremonies in Zambia yet he can not form his own cultural ceremony grouping ,instead he is involved in to partisan stupid politics in Malawi . Paramount Kyungu is all the time busy serving the government in power as publicly says in order to eat well while… Read more »
