Maskal sets trend in Nthawi DVD

By Maurice Nkawihe, Nyasa Times

Masiye Kasaru aka Maskal is man of time and the irony of having a debut album named ‘Nthawi’ seem to be long benefit him. At the age of 25, Maskal launched his professional music career with the premiere of the smash-hit album, which over the year has hit platinum.

Nthawi, a package of soaring vocals, tender lyrics and an added zest of soul is a darling of everyone young and old, quickly turning Maskal into a national pin-up.

The album was followed by a release of two timely videos ‘Udalire’ and ‘Wa CV’ that up-scaled his numbers on the wall to be another force to reckon with in the music hall of fame. The two tracks and other songs on the album keep on enjoying waves of popularity and airplay on almost every radio station in the country.

Of course it is all about time. And Maskal seems to sit very well in another time frame. He is back. This time with another version of Nthawi love pack, Nthawi music videos album, which is set to resuscitate, reposition and reorganize the music playground.

Maskal: Nthawi

With the music industry awash with DVDs that offer nothing but motion pictures in a frame, Nthawi DVD could be healing dosage and archetype to emulate, if Malawi videos are to earn international recognition. And Maskal could be, if you are a darling of quality and creativity, another in the ilk of other stars namely Dan Lu, Theo Thomson, Young Kay and Tay Grin, among others.

Shot in various sceneries across the country and complete with story lines that imbue a cool swagger type of movement, Nthawi DVD is a classic must-watch and how urban music videos must be.

Produced and directed by video master Chipiliro Khonje and Nde’feyo Entertainment, who would doubt Maskal is set to out-class all other music videos released and yet to hit the streets.

The DVD is embedded with one strong adage – This is a warning shot – The Malawi Music Awards best male vocalist is here to stay and all other artists have to take second thought before releasing their music videos.

As days draw close to the first performance of Nthawi DVD on August 27, it is cogent that hearts of fans would skip a bit in eagerness to taste this work-of-art from the lady’s man.

Maskal, who has performed for sold out venues across the country, seems to have come of age in stage pieces and is set to unleash the gained skills on the night of August 27 with the support of the billed cast of Black Missionaries popularly known as Ma Blacks, Young Kay, Barry One, Armstrong, Jeddie I Tafari, Trumel, Biriwiri, Piksy, Third Eye and others.

Oh! yes, It is another time when pens will chronicle new drift from the trendsetter himself, Maskal – who has set a trend of being first urban artist to record successful debut album and release a complete DVD of the same, and of course to become a brand ambassador for a commercial company, Access Communications Limited. And yes, Maskal going to be first urban artist to perform on Robin Park stage.

Who would dare to miss this trend setting moment as Nthawi love-pack takes another dimension. Embrace the winter and sample the international type of launch of Nthawi DVD as the melody maker is geared to light the Robin Park hall into frenzy and ecstasy.

But the spark of the moment would be on how the Big Brother Amplified eviction show performer will unpack the Nthawi dosage into otherwise expectant ardent fans that are eager to quench another breath-taking premiere following the successful launch of Nthawi album at now closed French Cultural Centre (FCC).
