Matumbi in ‘Julie & Vivian’ movie production
One of the country’s ragga music pioneers, Annie Matumbi, has disclosed that he will soon shoot a movie based on the story ‘Juliet and Vivian’.
The Lilongwe-based musician, renowned for his jokey songs, among them the hit ‘Julie’ revealed this in an interview with Nyasa Times.
Matumbi, real name Chiyanjano Muheziwa and is also better known as ‘Nyakwawa’ said that everything was ready for the production to commence.
“The sponsors of the production have confirmed that everything is set, in terms of finance. They are just waiting for me to tell them when we should start shooting,” said Matumbi.

He further explained that in the film, Juliet, Vivian and Maliseni (Matumbi himself), will be protagonists.
The artist continued to say that he decided to produce his composed characters Julie and Vivian as a movie in order to expand some of the edited ideas from his songs in his tragic-comic story.
‘Julie and Vivian’ will also help to give a clear picture and explanation on what really happened among these three characters portrayed in his songs Julie part 1, 2 and 3.
“I’m expecting my production to be of high quality. My fans know about Matumbi’s seriousness in terms of production,” he said.
Added Matumbi with a grin: “We will also include those two huge bouncers who grabbed me by the neck and smashed me onto the ground at Lilongwe Hotel [in the ‘Julie’ music videos].”
Meanwhile, the artist who has been in the shells in the music circles has bemoaned piracy which is rampant in the country and has since urged Malawians to shun away from the malpractice.
While assuring his fans that he will keep producing music, Matumbi pointed out that piracy discourages artists from working hard, saying they spend a lot of resources during the production but the outcome is too minimal.
