Aspiring councilor for Chinamwali Ward in Zomba Central Constituency Davie Maunde says sports is vital tool to mobilize the youths and drill them in life skills.
Maunde said this during the finals of a netball bonanza and eventual launch of football bonanza respectively which took place at Chinamwali ground on Sunday.
The shadow councilor for United Democratic Front (UDF) explained in an interview with Nyasa Times that apart from participating in competitions and winning trophies, the youth also interact and share experiences of their lives and find ways on how to overcome them.
“It always beats me to see young people sitting idle in their respective homes just because they have nothing to do. It is in this vain that I organized these sports bonanzas to keep the youths busy and abstain from deviant behaviours like drug and substance abuse, among others,” he said.
According to Maunde, he will introduce councilor’s trophy soon after the tripartite elections on May 20 this year in order to allow more youths participation and exposure of talents.
During the finals, Chinamwali Sisters won the netball trophy after beating Chinamwali Girls Private Secondary School by 23 baskets to 14 whereas in the football bonanza launch, Chayof FC emerged 3-2 winners over Chinamwali Madrid FC. The football bonanza starts on Monday May 12 and will end this Friday May 16.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
