MBC producer cornered for ‘stealing’ money in purse

Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) producer Chikondi Phinda is currently walking face-dropped after beings cornered stealing money from fellow workmate.

Phinda who is already blacklisted by the MBC’s internal security for her light-fingered behavior-as she has been stealing valuable stuff from other workmates including money-was last month cornered after stealing K5,000 from a fellow workmate, Mercy Chaluma who happens to be her friend.

According to our source within MBC,  Phinda on May 24th stole K5,000 from Chaluma’s handbag while she was in ladies restroom. Ironically, the only person present in the office at that time was Phinda.

Chaluma, however, did not realize her money was missing until she knocked off. Upon realization, she called PhInda, who without digesting the details of Chaluma’s complaint, quickly alleged that she was, too, robbed a cell-phone “at the office”.

Interestingly, at the time of the call she was using the same phone.

“She rushed complaining that her mobile phone was stolen at the office, surprisingly Chaluma had not mentioned where the money was stolen. How did  Phinda know that Chaluma’s money was stolen at the office? The matter was tense then Chaluma reported to head of their department Patricia Sundu who called for a hearing.

“And there was drama during the hearing, as Chikondi could not defend herself from the fact that she was the last person to be close to Chaluma before the money was stolen and that she was the only person in the office at the time the money was stolen. And when asked why she was suing her mobile number while the phone was stolen, Phinda only said that she had removed the SIM card from the phone before it was stolen,” the source explained.

The hearing meeting, the source said, pressed Phinda to mention anybody suspected to have stolen the phone and she could not give even one name, forcing the conclave to order her pay back the money despite pleading not guilty-thus, considering her record of stealing from fellow workmates.

“As of now Chaluma has been advised not to report the matter to the internal security department for fear of jeopardizing  Phinda’s job, as she was on several occasions given warnings, and reporting this matter will only worsen her record, ,” added the source.

Meanwhile, Chaluma who once considered Phinda  as friend has started distancing herself from the her. Andthe woman has not yet paid the money.
