Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) grassroots leadership on Saturday took turns in dressing down the party embattled sprinter group which is being championed by Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma.
Nkhoma is described by the inner circle as a ‘prodigal daughter’ because she has played vital role in the party during th reign of John Tembo and current president Dr Lazarus Chakwera.
Chatinkha last week led a team of disgruntled expelled sistrict chairpersons who described Chakwera as a failed leader.
However, responding to the Chatinkha presser, party supporters, branch chairmen, area chairs and constituency committee chairs led by Lilongwe City Constituency chair Hardwell Kachibekete converged at the MCP Regional office in Lilongwe where they said Chatinkha has no legal mandate to call for the resignation of any party leader or to call for a convention.
“These people have no position in fact we are even calling them to apologise to the party for doing a job which is not for them,” said Chibekete.
Chibekete accused Chatinkha of being funded by ruling Democrtaic Progressive Party (DPP) to destroy MCP.
“We know whatever is happening, we know these people have received funding to destroy the party, but they will not succeed,” said Kachibekete.
Banda said the party is intact and ready for the 2019 polls.
“Our eyes are now in 2019 polls we are ready to sit down with anyone with dissentive views but we will not allow a group of individuals to destroy the party,” said Banda.
Meanwhile, the grassroots leadership has called upon the sprinter grouping to come for a round table dialogue.
“The door is open tell Chatinkha to come here she should not be holding press conferences in the lodges let her come here this is a party regional office let them come here if they are not sent to disturb the party,” said Banda.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
