MCP demands probe into party flags burning in Mangochi
Main opposition, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has angrily reacted to the uprooting and subsequent burning of its party flags in Mangochi on Saturday by suspected ruling party cadets and have since demanded a thorough probe by Malawi Police.
A clip posted in social media platforms shows young men clad in Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) t-shirts uprooting the party flags, putting them together and burning them in full view of people.
MCP publicist Maurice Munthali said the party needs nothing but justice so that all the culprits are taken to book.
“DPP is associated with acts of terror, police should investigate this matter, they should go to the bottom of it. These are DPP cadets sent to cause mayhem,” said Munthali.
But DPP spokeman who is also Minister of Homeland Security, Nicholous Dausi cast doubt that perpetrators were DPP cadets.
“As a party, we will investigate the matter,” said Dausi.
However, Ernest Thindwa, a political scientist at Chancellor College said the police cannot probe an issue to do with DPP cadets, saying the police fears the cadets.
“The police are powerless, incapacitated before the ruling party cadets. Any investigation can yield nothing,” said Thindwa.
Newly established UTM party vehicle as well as that of a member of parliament in Mzimba Agnes Nyalonje were burnt to ashes in Mangochi a day before Vice-President Saulos Chilima addressed a rally in the lakeshore district.
The police are yet to come up with a report months after the incident.
The police is under Dausi…….go figure! …….. That s the very reason Ministry of homeland security was developed, to cause terror and havoc to the opposition it was by design!
Rotten to the core. That’s what the country has become. Just like the burning of UTM vehicles, or the violence against MCP candidate in the run up to by election in Mulanje, nothing will come out of this issue.
Appointing a party’s spokesperson to be home affairs minister speaks volumes of how archaic our leadership is. Some of the mistakes mutharika makes are a huge mockery to his own academic and professional credentials.

Achawa!!! be warned that though other tribes across Malawi are peace-loving, this should not be misinterpreted for not having potential to react and destroy anything that is DPP or UDF. Suppose the youth in opposition strongholds react, do you think this country can be peaceful?
Dausi is both DPP spokesperson as well as Minister of Home Affairs-Police. Can he be able to denounce violence by DPP and ask the Police to probe perpentrators? Never in Malawi

it seems people of Mangochi are savages. It is in Mangochi were UTM vehicles were burnt and it is in Mangochi were MCP flags and party cloths have been burnt. Are these people not ashamed? Our police this is a receip for anarchy if you do not act.
A Malawi musalorenso a MEC kuti atisokoserenso ndi kuyitananitsa party leaders ku mkumano encouraging them to avoid any sort of political violence. These people are evil. MEC chair lives in Malawi, she sees that it is only DPP which is currently killing innocent souls and promoting all sorts of violence against opposition parties, it is not opposition par, She knows these issues prety well, but because she has been promised heaven on earth after the polls infavour of the DPP, she does not want to rebuke DPP in public, if she can she will do it in a political way. Iyeyu amafuna azizungulira ngati sakudziwa, If she is honest and she does not fear DPP, the clip is very clear, she should have requested the police to deal with these evil cadets and denounce this violence while condeming DPP for this. But, I tell this woman cant do this, Kale I was meant to believe that mothers care but I understand Now that not all of them DO. Shame on MEC and the police.
