Main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has fired nine Southern region committee members from their positions following violence that happened last year when Administrative Secretary Potipher Chidaya was beaten.
According to a letter signed by the party’s Secretary General Gustave Kaliwo addressed o Southern Region chairman Peter Simbi and copied to the party’s president, vice president, Administrative Secretary and Southern region members, MCP has fired nine region members for indiscipline and leading in beating of party officials that include its own second vice president Macdonald Lombola and his wife Mrs Lombola.
The fires officials include Robson Edson Chirwa who was Campaign Director ,Gift Dafter second organising secretary, Daniel Dambuleni Deputy organising Secretary, Desire Kambewa Deputy Youth director, Blessings Chilembwe Publicity Secretary and Mercy Issa the Youth Treasurer.
Others are Mrs Kuyenda third women chair, Joseph Kangulu Deputy Treasure and Pearson Matenda who was Youth Secretary.
According to Kaliwo the incident which happened on 11th November, 2015 at the party’s regional headquarters where there was supposed to be a regional meeting with Adminstrative Secretary Chidaya , the nine started violence using pangas and other objects to beat senior officials for misunderstandings which erupted in the meeting .
In a statement Kaliwo said after the incident, the party investigated and heard from both sides through its disciplinary hearing chaired by retired Brigadier Chinjala.
The hearing found the nine officials wrong for breaking the party’s constitution and the party and has resolved to fire them from their positions.
He further advices the region chairman and his committee to ensure the fired members are not performing any duty as party regional leaders.
