MCP says corruption major problem in Malawi

Malawi Congress Partry (MCP) has said the major problem in the country is corruption and has called on President Peter Mutharika to root out the evil.

Mkaka: Corruption biggest setback in Malawi

MCP deputy secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka said: “If we root out corruption, we will be on our way to economic development because Escom, water boards, the health system are all failing because of corruption.”

He said the major challenge for Malawi in 2017 will be how to root out corruption.

Mkaka said President Mutharika presided over a broken nation in 2016 with economic turmoil, saying state of affairs crumbled ranging from key sectors of agriculture. Education and health.

“The year 2016 has been one of the worse years economically,” said Mkaka. “Everything has failed.”

But ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesman said despite the country facing “serious challenges”, there are initiatives being undertaken to revive the economy and crackdown of graft.

To me rooting out corruption means removing DPP from power. DPP is the axis of corruption in Malawi. If they were serious in fighting corruption they could have strengthen the governance institutions like ACB. At the moment ACB is at its lowest in term of strength. The Director himself has deliberately gone to sleep to pave way for Chaponda and his accomplices to steal from Malawians through dubious maize purchase. We will continue to see corrupt practices as long as DPP is in power.

It doesn’t require one person, it requires Parluament. I can tell you that only Parliament filled with tough action orientated MPs can eradicate it. Tough laws: 1. All corrupt officials if caught and convicted successfully should be sentenced to death. 2. All… Read more »
