MCP supporters injured in a road accident
Several supporters of the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) have been seriously injured in an accident at Bunda roadblock junction in the capital Lilongwe involving a vehicle they were travelling in to a political rally at Masintha ground Sunday afternoon.
Eye witnesses told Nyasa Times that the victims mostly women have their limbs and legs broken after an over speeding 10 tonner lorry registration on DC 5449 had its doors opened as the driver negotiated a corner near the police road block.
Privately owned Zodiak radio also reported of the accident saying police were seen busy assisting those injured. Exact number of those injured is not yet known.
On Sunday MCP President Dr Lazarus Chakwera returned to familiar ground when he addresses his maiden MCP rally in Lilongwe at Masintha Ground.

Chakwera, until recently president of the Malawi Assemblies of God, is a familiar face around these areas, having preached and lived at the Assemblies of God church just across Masintha Ground for 30 years.
And around these areas, he is revered for his generosity and humility, as evidenced by the party glad crowds teeming at the venue several hours before the event was to kick-off.
“I remember when he used to live at the church, we used to have water problems around the area and he always allowed the community access to the church water for free,” remarked Biwi resident Maria Phiri, clad in the party’s blue and yellow regalia.
Several lorries and trucks were also seen ferrying party faithful to the venue.
