MCP’s Chaziya elected Lilongwe District Council chair

Members of Parliament and Ward Councilors from Lilongwe have elected opposition Malawi Congress Party  (MCP) councillor Samson Chaziya of Mazengera Ward  as the chairman of the Lilongwe District Council.

The elections were in line with local governments and town assemblies act.

The position of deputy chairman went to Halima Isati from Chiwenga war.

Speaking during the function Lilongwe District Commissioner, Charles Kalemba, asked the ward Councillors to be committed and work for the benefits of the local Malawians.

Kalemba warned the councillors against corruption.

MCP president Dr Lazarus Chakwera commended the councillors for the elections.

Chakwera who is also the leader of opposition in Parliament said he is optimistic that the leaders will work to the benefits of local Malawians who voted for them.
