MCP’s Jiya, Sagawa predict easy win in Lilongwe City Centre

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) aspiring councilor for Chimutu ward and member of parliament for  Lilongwe City Centre have predicted that they will win because according to them voters are disenchanted.

The aspiring ward councilor Esther Sagawa and aspiring Member of Parliament Alfred Jiya told Nyasa Times in an interview that the area despite having over 100 000 voters, remain underdeveloped to the extent that people were having water contaminated with sewage last year.

Said Sagawa: “I believe that voters in this area deserve better and they have been disappointed  because this area is underdeveloped. Imagine there are only two clinics catering for areas such as 18, Mgona, Chatata, 25 and 49. This is unacceptable and once voted into power I will make sure that more clinics are built. and more social services are introduced.”

On his part  Jiya said  once voted into office he will initiate development projects that will transform the whole constituency.

Jiya explained that despite government initiating road projects last year, they are of poor quality and will not withstand harsh weather conditions.

“Area 18 was once  the best township in Lilongwe but that is no longer the case. Even road conditions are of poor quality. Imagine people drinking contaminated water this will not happen during our time in office,” said Jiya.

Other councilors who are contesting on the MCP ticket in city centre include Maloni Chatewa in Mvunguti Ward, Patrick Makumba-Maria ward, Vumani Chidzanja Nkhoma- Mgona Chatate Ward, Flora Kumbuyo- Kabwabwa Ward and Yohane Zibiyoni- Nyama Ward.

The ruling DPP has rapper Tay Grin representing it while lawyer Gift Nankhuni is also contesting as an independent.
