MEC hires 400  vehicles for May 21 polls

Pollster, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says the government has finally released money for the hiring of 400 vehicles for the polls in less than two weeks’ time.

MEC commissioner Moffat Banda:  Vehicles would ease mobility problems

MEC commissioner Moffat Banda was however tight lipped to reveal how much the government has released for the hiring of the vehicles.

Banda, however, described the release of the money as timely, saying the vehicles would ease mobility problems MEC faces during such an important exercise.

Malawi is going for a highly contentious tripartite election in years to elect a President, members of parliament and councilors.

Banda also said there would be 197 tally centres across the country.

He said this was the case because some constituencies were too big to have one tally centre.
