MEC set to announce date for by-election in Lilongwe

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says it will this week announce the date for the by-election in Lilongwe south which was postponed due to political violence.

Alfandika:  Only 5 days for campiagn before polls

MEC chief executive officer Sam Alufandika said this follows a series of meetings the pollster held with political parties on the need for peaceful election.

“We will have the campaign period of less than five days because this is the continuation of the previous campaign,” he said.

The November 5 by-election in the area was postponed because of political violence and threats to lives of staff and commissioners of MEC.
