Meke Mwase’s team go top of Swaziland league
Malawian coach Meke Mwase has inspired Mbabane Highlanders to go top of Swaziland flagship league after triumphing over rivals Mbabane Swallows 2-1 on Sunday in a Manzoni derby.
Mpucuko Dlamini and Fanelo Tsabedze earned the the former Malawi national football team captain his first derby victory by scoring both goals while Felix Bandhorst scored Swallows face saver.
The victory has steered Highlanders one point clear of top position with 38 points displacing Buffaloes to second and another title contender Leopards to third slot.
wase,, who has coached Nyasa Bullets, Silver Strikers, Azam Tigers among other clubs was over the moon with the win as he started his tenure in Swaziland with a barren draw against the same team.
“I am happy that we have won the game because it has put us strongly in the hunt for the league title in eight years,”Mwase said.
But the soft spoken tactician who played alongside Football Association of Malawi President Walter Nyamilandu and former Super League of Malawi president Henry Chibowa at Mighty Be Forward Wanderers said the battle would go down to the wire.
“It’s a motivation for us but we cannot relax as each of the three remaining games is crucial for us to win the league after eight years.”
Meanwhile, Mwase’s magic wand since he took charge of the team has earned him applause from the team’s fans.
He joined the team this season on a year-long contract.
