Mia confident of Chakwera to be next Malawi leader this year

Deputy president of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and official running-mate in the annulled  presidential election Mohamed Sidik Mia saluted the people of Msundwe for their tenacity and bravery in protesting the chaotically managed 2019 election.

Sidik Mia, MCP deputy president, with Mrs Chakwera at Msundwe rally

Msundwe, the outskirt trading center of Malawi’s capital Lilongwe, became the epicenter for the struggle of electoral justice with thousands of people emanating from the area forming the backbone of the protests which characterized the aftermath of the 21st May, 2019 election in the capital Lilongwe.

The Msundwe residents kept the pressure on the street while MCP president Lazarus Chakwera and his UTM counterpart, Saulos Chilima, were in court challenging the outcome of the election.

Having been vindicated by a panel of five High Court judges sitting as a constitutional court, to the effect that the election was marred with unpardonable irregularities which left the court with no option but to nullify the election and order fresh election within 150 days, Chakwera and Mia had also no option but to visit the residents of Msundwe residents to give a special thank you.

Speaking during a rally at Police ground right at the centre of Msundwe trading centre before a sea of people on Saturday, Mia saluted the residents for a job well done.

“You were the symbol of this struggle. You have all the hallmarks of this struggle. Your bravery and tenacity in the fight for electoral justice will go down in the annals of our modern history,” said Mia amidst chants and ululations from masses as his deep voice boomed and reverberated from the speakers.

Mia, whose ties with Chakwera is so strong owing to the loyalty they have for one another, said his boss is the only presidential candidate who will unite and develop the country when he takes over as president this year.

“I am confident of Dr Chakwera presidency this year. He is the only presidential candidate with practical prospects, political capital and leadership finesse of not only winning the impending fresh election but also one who can champion unity and development in our country,” added Mia.

Taking his turn, Chakwera was solemn in his address; neither excited nor sad but kept on talking close to an hour, also saluting his people for fighting alongside him.

“Our assignment this year is to get rid of DPP, once and for all,” said Chakwera who led in casting out ‘DPP demons’ of ‘corruption’, ‘theft’ which he said have engulfed and brought our country to her knees.

The rally was patronised by, among others, former first gentleman Richard Banda, Freedom Party president Khumbo Kachali, Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani-Hara and First Deputy Speaker Madalitso Kazombo and some People’s Party executive members.

On his part, Kachali described the ConCourt ruling as having created a conducive environment for his party to engage an extra gear.

“The war has just begun. Come rain, come sunshine, we are going to work tirelessly until Chakwera becomes the President,” he said.

Mia my friend you will commit suicide. Mcp is using you as a worn out condom.you will regret seeing chakwera being president and Chilima runningmate for the sake of dealing with Mutharika. Pharasees and Saducees in the Bible were great enemies. They didnot see each other eye to eye even each other’s shadow but became United on one common ground to kill Jesus that’s what is happening between Chilima and chakwera to defeat Mutharika.Either way they will fail. If Chilima decides to unite with MCP,there will be mass exodous to dpp. You will see many refuges from UTM going back… Read more »

UTM mukuyesesatu kufuna kukakamiza zinthu zosatheka mpang’ono pomwe. Olo mutalimbikila Chilima sangaimilire MCP. Aimile UTM akhale pa #3 which is the best he could nkusazapezeka pa re run. MCP needs to tread carefully here, the judges did their part, if you mess it up again don’t come crying kuti mwabeledwa. Let Saulos take the Presidential position ku MCp and Chakwera as Vice, it’s the only winning formula and its a win win situation for both. This will guarantee Chakwera being in power and his benefits will apply for life, Saulos has been a Vice before so will not make sense to do it twice, besides Mia can not bring that much votes, he is only pa front cos he pumped in alot of money into MCP. This is… Read more »

Let Saulosi stand as presidential candidate wa UTM not MCP. MCP tilinaye kale candidate ndi runningmate. Tione ngat UTM ingazapezeke pa re run. After the fresh elections chilima will still get #3 zomwe zizapangise kusapezeka pa re run. Re run izakhala yazipani ziwili zikulu zikulu za MCP and DPP basi.

Do not base your opinion on the May 21 election results, those were rigged so we do not know who was the real number one. Just think on an alliance with UTM if you want to win.

The southern and eastern regions will register in large numbers this time. All Malawians living in Mozambique boundaries with Malawi in these regions will come back home to register. They are more than a million. DPP will meet this 50+1 through these people…..watch the space!
