Michiru Madrid assisted for Carlsberg Cup away fixture

Michiru Madrid got a timely assistance to enable them fulfil Carlsberg Cup quarterfinals fixture against Malawi top league side Moyale Barracks on Saturday.

Michiru have been a sensational team by being giant killers in the Carlsberg Cup having eliminated top league teams Master Security and Chitipa United on the way to reach the paid up ranks of the competition.

But their trip was uncertain prompting them to take a begging bowl to well wishers.

Technical Director Sylus Liwindo said the team managed to get the financial support for the 800km trip to the Northern Region of Malawi but the some of the well wishers have opted for anonymity.

Southern Football Association League where the team is affiliated also offered K140000 towards their K1.2 million budget.

“We are grateful to those who have assisted us because it has made it possible for us to travel to Mzuzu. However apart Southern Football Association League who have given us K140000 I would respect the wishes of others not to be identified,” he said.

“If it wasn’t for them we would have not managed to go. We will work hard to do we know it won’t be easy.”

Michiru Madrid is owned by retired referee Samuel Mangasanja who is now working for Super League of Malawi (Sulom).
