Millennium Challenge Corp to lead trade mission into Malawi
The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) will be leading a trade mission to Malawi in June with investors willing to work in the energy sector to boost the country’s economic growth, according to MCC chief executive officer Dana Hyde.
Speaking at a meeting in Washinton D.C. with President Peter Mutharika, Hyde said they were impressed with the progress registered in the $350 million (about K58 billion) energy compact currently being implemented in the country.
Said Hyde: “The President provided us with progress on how the power interconnector is progressing and this far we are pleased with this partnership.
“Much work needs to be done to meet our own timelines and objectives over the next years but we will continue to work with government, the relevant ministries and stakeholders to achieve maximum results.”
I CAN SEE NOTHING WILL COME OUT OF HIS TRIP. YOU CAN TELL BY THE SET UP OF ALL HIS MEETINGS, THAT IT WAS DONE BY THEMSELF. THEY USED THE SAME TABLE ALL THE TIME WITH THIER OWN CHEAP BLUE GLASSES FROM A DOLLA STORE. NO WHERE IN THE U.S.A BOARD ROOM WOULD ALLOW TO USE THE SAME TABLE WEAR AND TABLE CLOTH. THIS WAS ALL STAGE UP MEETINGS, SOME WHERE IN THE U.S.A. BY THE DPP GURUS. IF WE FAILED TO GET SOMETHING FROM THE AFRICAN SUB MEETING. YOU EXPECT TO GET SOMETHING BIG FROM THIS? GOD PLEASE HELP… Read more »
Malawi to develop need investors not donors. President Professor Muthalika now you are talking.
To you Ujeni,
Words are powerful and something tangible will develop. MCP used to sing the song that Kamuzu snatched the Country from the colonial master with words only.
Binging used to say he would turn things aaround just before he became President which he did the first five years
Visions, mission statements are all words through which policies, strategies , Time lines, KPA and KPI are developed and goals realized.
I still have to understand why Mutharika spent more than 2 weeks in USA. How much money has been wasted? These tiny “small” meetings don’t need the presence of Head of State. Since when do heads of state negotiate these small things? We have all the required officers at the embassy in Washington. Their responsibility is to link such people with relevant ministries. I will not be surprised if the president is not up to katangale. Anzathu mapresidenti amapita nkhani itatha to witness signing of deals. Koma zoona president azinyamuka kukakhala ku dziko lina and meet avhina Odoulelo? Something is… Read more »
Will be talking and talking for another 100 years with nothing tangible to be seen, keep on talking.
