Minister Kaliati donates to family of 6 children with disabilities

Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati has donated maize flour and other basic necessities to a family with six children with disabilities in Senior Chief Nkoola in Machinga.

The minister visited the family after reading the story about the family on social media.

In an interview, Kaliati said it was touching to see six children from the same household having various forms of disabilities.

The first twins have hearing impairment and cannot talk and walk; two other children have hearing impairment and cannot talk, but are able to walk and two others have hearing impairment.

“It is not normal for six children from the same family to have disabilities. This calls for divine intervention,” said Kaliati.

She asked Chief Nkoola to allocate a piece of land to the family to construct a disability-friendly house.

“We call upon those who may wish to extend a hand to this family to come forward through my ministry and take part in assisting the family,” said Kaliati.

Chief Nkoola said he posted the family’s story on social media to ask for help.

“I am grateful to see that the minister has reacted swiftly to calls for help,” he said.

The children’s father, Omar Chisale, said they have been going to various hospitals to seek help.

He said: “The condition of my children has affected me as I cannot go to search for money because they need much of our attention.

“My wife alone cannot properly look after six children with disabilities.”

Chisale said although the first twins were born in 2004, none of them has been to school because of walking challenges

While it is in order to help those in need, we also need to educate our people the importance of having the right number of children that we can manage to support. I know that there is always a temptation to try for another child when the first one is disabled but there should be a limit on how many times you can keep on trying for an abled child….. Raising a child is not cheap…….we also need to educate our people to to stop having having children for the sore purpose of kuti adzawathandize mtsogolo. This notion is bad… Read more »

It is clear that this is not the government where a minister or an official can steal money from the govt and then take the change to donate to poor people.. in this case she is donation from her pocket..this is what we have always wanted..we didnt like it when bakili and the previous president took money from the nations budget and started donating to people misonkhano lying that it’s from their pockets..making the whole country look like amasikini..kindness should come from.ones sacrifice not stealing billions from the state then building a church with the change from the theft

Bravo to the Honourable Minister for helping a disadvantaged family.

Of course, since it is the Honourable Minister assisting in her personal capacity, I assume she didn’t use any taxpayer resources for her visit.

Of course she must have used her private vehicle and her personal fuel to visit this family in need.

Surely she wouldn’t have used government resources to get publicity for herself.

That would be highly unethical.

You Kaliati, you are stealing the headlines from SKC, don’t you now that SKC likes to be in headlines everyday? You are what we call the ugly face of pomposity and arrogance. UTM can only have one leader and that is SKC, the lion killer!!! Vote SKC.

It’s sad to see Malawians still leaving in abject poverty in the 21st century, yet we had muluzi and NTCHONA nkhalamba stealing money meant for these people.

Muluzi was corrupt.
Bingu was corrupt
Mama Corruption Joyce Hilda Banda was corrupt
Peter Mutharika was corrupt
All the years after Kamuzu no development and no progress.
Kaliati and the likes of her have been praise singers of all the corrupt leaders we have had
Now we see Chakwera and SKC going the Corrupt Club
BCA Hill should be made into the Corrupt Leaders Club for all corrupt leaders.
