Miss Malawi UK contestants unveiled: Show on Sept 28
The Miss Malawi -United Kingdom beauty contest has attracted 8 contestants and the show will take place on 28 September in Birmingham at after two years of the pageant absence.
The event will take place at La Reference Bar & Restaurant, 160 Hockley Hill B18 5AN. The pageant will be held in a multi-purpose hall at the place while the after party will be held at the bar and restaurant.
Miss Malawi-UK event coordinating executive Kondi Bowoyeke Munthali said eight Malawian women are expected to take part.
Munthali said young Malawian women are aged between 18 and 24 from across the United Kingdom have been shortlisted for the coveted crown.
Munthali said six girls took part in the photo shoot last weekend in Birmingham but two failed on reasons beyond human control. He however said all eight are contesting
The contestants who have been unveiled on Miss Malawi UK Facebook page are Raysha Mahomed, Malaika Macholowe, Eltina Maganga, Alexina Phiri, Sandra Gwengwe and Bethamy. Agatha Phiri and Mercy Chirwa who did not take part in the photo shoot are going to contest.
One of the contestants 20-year-old Alexina Phiri —a Birmingham based law student- will be Malawi flag carrier at the Miss Black Africa pageantry at the Royal Regency Hall in London on 5 October.
Munthali said organisers will announce prizes next week and a line-up of entertainment activities to spice up the night of glamour.
“All is now in place for the pageant,” said Munthali.
The organisers of the show said it will be a red carpet affair.
“It will be a red carpet event with post- production television exposure,” said Henry Dokowe Ngwira Jnr one of the organisers.
Meanwhile, organisers are calling on Malawian business community in UK to contact them so that they can help promote their services on the night.
The contestants have also video poste don YouTube. The organisers thanked singer Maskal for allowing the use of his songs.
