Love was in the air on Sunday afternoon when Chimwemwe Chokani was crowned as Miss Valentine at a beauty contest which took place at the jam packed Chez Ntemba International Club in Blantyre.
Chokani, a form four student at Michiru View Secondary School beat other 15 teen models to dress the coveted title.
Tadala Ndisale, an accounts and finance student at Blantyre Institute of Management, who has been participating in Miss Warm of Africa, Malawi News Model of the Year and Miss Blantyre among other pageants, was named the first princess.
Elisha Tembo, 19, a student at Malawi College of Accountancy emerged as the second princess.
“This girl deserves the crown as she has got all it takes. It’s Chimwemwe,”” announced one of the judges Mateus Mapiko, Malawi News Model of the Year creative designer.
Other judges were Jones Kumwenda, chief executive officer for Red Rose Modeling Agency and Mc Fallen Mbewe, a student at Catholic University.
Among others, the winners received a shopping voucher from L. Devraj Exclusive Clothing Shop, driving scholarships from Midima Highway Driving School and also saloon voucher from Hair turn beauty saloon.
The new Valentine queen who has Tyra Banks as her role model said she will campaign against early marriages and pre-marital sex in fellow pupils.
“I will work with various schools, youth clubs and organizations so as to achieve this,” she said.
According to the project’s coordinator for the event Justice Mponda of Tabwera Entertainment, their aim was to unearth and mould raw talent at an early stage.
“Our aim is to groom young girls to become professional models as evidenced by the most of the current models who are the products of this pageantry, “he said.
Apart from Mponda, other members of Tabwera are freelance model Nicra Watts Chikopa and DJ Trigger.
Diktator, Blak Jak, DJ Lomwe, Kumbu, Breaking Silence, Shine Girls and C double were some of the musicians that performed at the event.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
