Mkango Lodge to host Blantyre social weekend: ‘Celebrity bash’

Young Malawian and Gifted (YMG) has organized  a Blantyre Social weekend to be hosted September 21 at Mkango Lodge in Chirimba.

Dubbed “The Celebrity Bash”, the show is expected to bring together a full list of top singer  within the commercial city led by Piksy of “Unamata” fame  and Blakjak who is popular for his hit song “Wadya Iwe”

Speaking in an interview, YMG’s managing Partner Kelvin Sulugwe explained that this is YMG’s idea to bring together young people to socialize and discuss issues that matter a lot in their lives.

“As YMG, we believe in talents and skills that young people have and we believe that gatherings like these at a city level will help them share such skills. It is also an opportunity for fans to interact with their youthful models and get to hear their success stories. We believe that successful youths are better placed to inspire their friends because they speak the same language.”

According to Sulugwe, the event is not just about the usual routine of artists’ performances but that a number of activities have been lined up.

“We are looking at creating something that will involve everyone and not just the artists. We have lined up a number of group activities including swimming competitions, tag of war, goat skinning, pool table and many more. The aim is to get together as young people who share love for our country. We are currently in talks with a number of successful young people to be guests at this event and we will be able to communicate as we near the event,” explained Sulugwe.

Blakjak real name Fatsani Kalonda said that he has always looked for an opportunity to actually get together with his fans and hear their stories.

“This is amazing. I dint even hesitate to accept YMG’s request when they approached me to be one of the headliners of the event. I believe as an artist, I will have enough time just to interact with my fans in a social way and get to hear their opinion about my music. I also look forward to socialize with my fellow artists because it’s not every day that we get a chance to be together at an event such as this,” said Blakjak who has recently released his new single “Yes or No”.

According to organizers, the show will also bring together successful young people from different backgrounds including sports, politics and business among others. Fans and artists will also have a chance on red carpet to take photos which will be prepared by Impact Photography.

YMG is youth movement which aims to bring positive change to the youth by collaboratively working together to overcome challenges that these future leaders face in the areas of health, education and development.

Among others, the group recently launched “Give Them a Future Project” which aims to identify a number of street kids and give them a home. This is being done hand in hand with Kenya’s NGO Springs of Hope currently operating in Mombasa but with plans to open a branch in Malawi.
