Mlowe Day Secondary School student killed in a minibus accident

A minibus has  killed a 17 year old Mlowe Community Day Secondary School form two student after being hit while cycling at Chiweta Trading Centre in Rumphi District during the weekend.

According to Rumphi Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Khamisi, Stan Nyirenda, who hailed from Kayaghagha Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwamlowe in the district, was hit by a Toyota Hiace minibus registration number KA6980 which was coming from Karonga heading for Mzuzu.

“Chimwemwe Tembo, 36, from Kamangadazi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mzukuzuku in Mzimba, was driving a Toyota Hiace minibus heading to Mzuzu from Karonga.

“Upon arriving at Chiweta, he failed to negotiate a left bend and hit down to death the pedal cyclist who was heading the same direction,” explained Khamisi.

“The deceased sustained internal injuries and the motor vehicle had its windscreen and offside headlamp broken,” added the police publicist.

Meanwhile, the minibus is at Rumphi Police Station.

The police have since asked motorists to observe road signs to avoid accidents as they intensify patrol checks in all accident prone areas.
