Molande instructs MBC to give Atupele news blackout on UDF rallies

State House Director of Communications, Dr. Bright Molande, has instructed public broadcaster MBC to stop giving coverage to United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi.

Molande: out on dirty politics

MBC sources said Molande had earlier directed that Muluzi rallies should be covered by showing an angle where there few people and ignore the crowds.

But since Muluzi, who is Minister of Health and Population Services in President Peter Mutharika’s Cabinet, has not decisively disclosed the status of his party’s relationship with the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the 2019 Tripartite Elections, the MBC has been told not to give coverage to the UDF rallies.

UDF and DPP became bedfellows soon after the May 20 2014 Tripartite Elections after Mutharika drafted Muluzi into his first Cabinet. Muluzi has been maintained since then.

“We have received instructions to give Atupele Muluzi blackout on his rallies,” said MBC source.

According to impeccable sources, Molande has also waged a victimization campaign against Vice President Saulos Chilima, directing Ministry of Information and Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) officials to give the VP news ‘blackout’.

A top official at the VP’s office have confirmed that every time government-owned news agencies carried out stories about the Veep, Molande could lash out at Ministry of Information Principal Secretary, Justin Saidi, instructing him to order his ‘boys’ at Ministry of Information to retract the stories.

Molande could not pick phone calls when Nyasa Times attempted to seek his comment.

  1. So where is democracy here? I think dpp has run out of ideas and this is end of the party. This will never after the loss 2019 that will be the end. This is when they will know about MCP that it is chipani chafuko la Malawi.

  2. So many broadcasting Houses interested in covering Atupele Muluzi’ rallies so let it be, though I know it’s a propaganda endeavoring to break to bond which is there

  3. People don’t learn from other people’s mistakes. Still playing the primitive politics in this day and age. DPP, please wake up, this guy will prove to be a big liability to your agenda. Reminder to MBC and Molande: your salaries come from my taxes. Remember when Parliament allocated K1 budget to MBC at some point because of people and behaviour like Molande’s? We are watching….

  4. eish this is Malawi every Malawian has a right to receive and use Government resources as long as the law requires.Mol….. if its true shame on you.

  5. Atolankhani a pa Malawi amenewa. Akati alemba nkhani ndiye kuti awombanitse anthu mitu thinking that all people are dunderheads like them. Kutereko akudikira Atupere ayankhepo kanthu koti atolankhaniwo achonge kuti ”yagwira”. Try sometimes to write how Chakwera is playing his cards to win the 2019 elections. Sometimes try to speak to MCP gurus on what they are doing in their areas to make sure they win the next elections. Ask Chakwera on what he is doing to reconcile with Kabwila and the other so called MCP rebels. Writing propaganda about the DPP and Chilima will not strengthen MCP. DPP is looking forward to the next elections with a lot of work on the ground and they are sure to win. Don’t waste time with MBC because most of the big parties have their own media to publicise their political activities. Is it not the same opposition which says they don’t tune to MBC?

    1. Why not talk about UDF and your DPP? Zamanyazi, leave MCP alone ee! unakhala bwanji kodi nawe,
Palibe zomwe zikukhudza MCP here its UDF and DPP not mighty MCP!!

  6. Akuwona ngati ndi wamuyaya Molande eti? Kudali wanthu weniweni, pano ali kuti. Chiphwisi chake kape ameneyu

  7. We shall see what this ‘news blackout’ on others who are well loved by the most thinking Malawians take them to. Time will tell.

  8. A Molande kunja kuno kunalitu anzanu. Anyway MBC is for the 36% that voted for DPP President so whether you give this one green light or blackout it makes no difference to us who go for the truth in radio and TV
