Molande instructs MBC to give Atupele news blackout on UDF rallies

State House Director of Communications, Dr. Bright Molande, has instructed public broadcaster MBC to stop giving coverage to United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi.

Molande: out on dirty politics

MBC sources said Molande had earlier directed that Muluzi rallies should be covered by showing an angle where there few people and ignore the crowds.

But since Muluzi, who is Minister of Health and Population Services in President Peter Mutharika’s Cabinet, has not decisively disclosed the status of his party’s relationship with the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the 2019 Tripartite Elections, the MBC has been told not to give coverage to the UDF rallies.

UDF and DPP became bedfellows soon after the May 20 2014 Tripartite Elections after Mutharika drafted Muluzi into his first Cabinet. Muluzi has been maintained since then.

“We have received instructions to give Atupele Muluzi blackout on his rallies,” said MBC source.

According to impeccable sources, Molande has also waged a victimization campaign against Vice President Saulos Chilima, directing Ministry of Information and Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) officials to give the VP news ‘blackout’.

A top official at the VP’s office have confirmed that every time government-owned news agencies carried out stories about the Veep, Molande could lash out at Ministry of Information Principal Secretary, Justin Saidi, instructing him to order his ‘boys’ at Ministry of Information to retract the stories.

Molande could not pick phone calls when Nyasa Times attempted to seek his comment.

So where is democracy here? I think dpp has run out of ideas and this is end of the party. This will never after the loss 2019 that will be the end. This is when they will know about MCP that it is chipani chafuko la Malawi.

So many broadcasting Houses interested in covering Atupele Muluzi’ rallies so let it be, though I know it’s a propaganda endeavoring to break to bond which is there

People don’t learn from other people’s mistakes. Still playing the primitive politics in this day and age. DPP, please wake up, this guy will prove to be a big liability to your agenda. Reminder to MBC and Molande: your salaries come from my taxes. Remember when Parliament allocated K1 budget to MBC at some point because of people and behaviour like Molande’s? We are watching….
