MonaSinging, female singer carrying Malawian flag in diaspora

Born Monalisa Ndovie in Malawi’s capital city Lilongwe, MonaSinging is a performing artist who was raised in Lansing, Michigan U.S.A, but currently based in Alberta, Canada.

Having been singing since age seven, music is a passion for the singer-songwriter and dancer who adored music since she heard it, and wants to share hers with the world.

Growing up, she had been performing for seven years on and off, until 2012 when she started recording professionally and released her debut single ‘Walking away’ featuring her producer, Malawi’s up-and-coming rapper Excess of Ill City.

“My debut single and a couple of songs I have written, including ‘A million tears’ and ‘Kissed by God’ have opened doors for me,” she said in an online interview.

Added the artist: “I met a Canadian promotion group called Yzer Promotions and they have done so much, introducing me to many people who are big in the industry here.”

While making connects in the music industry, MonaSinging is also working on her debut album whose release dates are yet to be decided.

“This project will feature various artists, international and local,” she disclosed. “I am working with Excess and Nigeria’s Iyanya and Emma Nyra’s producer Rundatrax aka Desii.”

The singer recently formed a girl group called MCL which has been featured at various international events as an opening act for top artists such as Jamaican Beenie Man as well as Nigeria’s P-Square and Kefee. The three-member group was also featured in a music video titled ‘Exit’ by KayL, a very famous Canadian rapper also based in Calgary.

As she is rising in her career, MonaSinging indicated that she is still working on honing her brand.

“I am creating a solid identity as who do I want the world to see. Being comfortable with myself as an artist, having more self time to improve my craft and develop as a musician and person.”

Apart from working on her brand, the 22-year-old further revealed that she is working at putting out rapper Excess and other Malawian artists including Baseline Cash, Yesaya, Lil’ Vee and other “amazing talent we have that needs attention”.

Mona’s passion for music comes from many genres of music but she takes a big interest in R&B with inspiration from Brandy, India Arie, Aaliyah, Etta James, Vivian Green and Beyonce’ Knowles.
