More MPs to join People’s Party –Kalinde
People’s Party (PP) director of political affairs, Anita Kalinde MP, has said there are many members of parliament who will be joining the party led by Malawi’s first female Vice President Joyce Banda.
Kalinde, who is Thyolo North parliamentarian, said PP will be parading more MPs defecting from ruling DPP of President Bingu wa Mutharika.
She said the recent defection of the 27-year-old Zomba Nsondole Parliamentarian Jennifer Chirunga from DPP to PP was signs of times to come.
“A lot more are coming [to People’s Party],” she told Capital Radio through Straight Talk programme.
Chilunga becomes third DPP parliamentarian to join PP after Kalinde and Zomba Changalume’s Grace Maseko.
Now, the PP boasts four MPs in parliament, including Mzimba West legislator and PP vice president Khumbo Kachali, who was unceremoniously expelled from the DPP alongside Joyce Banda in December, 2010.
Kalinde also said PP has now over two million members nationwide
“Everyday people are registereing. We have got over two million members,” she said.
“There will be a lot of members who will be comin to our party,” added the MP.
“The party is gaing ground,” she enthused.
Kalinde said more MP have indicated to join Banda’s party but declined to mention them, saying “you will see them when they are coming, time will tell.”
