Mota Engil staff strike at Malawi Shipping Company, Port Services

Staff at Malawi Shipping Company  and Malawi Port Services are on strike, to force their employers Mota Engil increase salaries.

Mota-Engil sit-in

Transport Workers Union member Joseph Chimasula said salaries at the Mota Engil owned companies are pathetic.

“Some of them get as low as K30000 per month, which is not in tandem with the current cost of life,” said Chimasula.

He said talks for the raise in salaries started as way back as 2014 but yielded nothing.

Mota Engil spokesperson Thomas Chafunya said management was aware of the issues and the strike.

He said they would respond in a few days time.

The Company is corrupted. Even at its Head office in Lilongwe the story is the same. They don’t care for well being of its workers.

Only Malawi Ministers enjoy the company. The likes of George Chaponda Collects cartons of cash from the company.
