Moyale gun down Mafco to claim top spot

Moyale completely outclassed -team of the moment – Mafco to rise to the top of the TNM Super League log table with a convincing 3 – 0 victory on Saturday.

Goals from Dausi Mkutu, Gastin Simukonda and Dan Ziba proved enough to guarantee the soldiers maximum points and a place at the summit on 25 points from 14 games.

Before this fixture, the battle for the number one spot in the first round was a three horse race with Moyale, Escom United and Mafco doing battle to pocket the monetary award of K250, 000 from sponsors TNM.

Coach for Moyale Nicolas Mhango promised total war ahead of this fixture and on the field, his troops delivered to keep them in contention for the top spot.

Moyale: Climbed to the top

This result means defending champions Escom now have a golden chance of finishing the first round on top if they beat Red Lions on Sunday to rise to 26 points above the rest.

After a remarkable first round sparkling performance for Mafco, their dream of finishing top have been shattered by their brothers in arms Moyale.

In the capital city, Civo United finished the first round in style when they turned on the heat on struggling Mighty Wanderers 2 – 1 at home.

Patrick Gunde and Lazarus Chirwa condemned the Nomads to their 5th loss of the season to finish with 25 points. Cuthbert Sinetra pulled one back for the Nomads.

In the Zomba derby, Cobbe outsmarted Zomba United 1 – 0 with a Chibwana Chirambo’s strike making the much needed difference.

Blantyre United and Bullets FC shared the spoils at the Kamuzu stadium. Innocent Bokosi and Abraham Kamwendo scored for United while Douglas Chirambo and Gabadinho Mhango were on target for the people’s team who have finished the first round with 16 points.

In the Moyale/Mafco game, striker Gastin Simukonda was named player of the month of August for his exploits for Moyale.

Simukonda beat Silver Strikers midfielder Peter Pindani and Mafco goalkeeper Owen Chaima to claim the award and pocket K15, 000.

The striker has scored 7 goals for Moyale in the first round.
