Member of Parliament for Zomba Changalume for opposition People’s Party, John Chikalimba has dismissed reports suggesting that he intends to join the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Chikalimba, who is also Director of research for the PP, appeared on the list of politicians DPP were vetting before accepting in their rank and file.
But like some politicians who have dismissed any link with DPP, he has also said he never wished to join DPP.
Chikalimba said DPP has never been attractive ever since it formed government in 2014 and that he remains committed to PP.
He said Malawians needs leadership that can liberate the country from the numerous challenges being faced by focusing on persecuting poverty.
The lawmaker said under DPP government many people have become frustrated and disillusioned following broken promises and empty rhetoric.
Last Sunday during a political rally President Peter Mutharika addressed at Masintha Ground in Lilongwe there were defections by several politicians, including members of Parliament (MPs) David Bisnowaty (Lilongwe City Centre Constituency), Patrick Makina (Zomba Ntonya) and Davis Katsonga (Mwanza Central),
DPP spokesperson Francis Kasaila said all newcomers were vetted before being accepted.
However, according to the DPP list seen by Nyasa Times, others are pending including former ministers Brown Mpinganjira and Henry Phoya.
