MP Jonas falls in DPP primaries, Njobvuyalema through in MCP
Lilongwe City Central legislature Shadreck Jonas on Monday failed miserably in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)
primaries while Malawi Congress Party (MCP) parliamentarian for Lilongwe Mapuyu South Joseph Njobvuyalema comfortably went through in the party primaries.
Jonas came third in the elections with 36 votes, Christopher Chimba came second with 102 votes while the party’s National Organising Secretary Chimwemwe Mazabuka Chipungu won with 1647 votes.
Sensing disaster, Jonas was the first to concede defeat even before the returning officer Patricia Kaliati announced of results.
“People from this constituency wanted change, that’s why they approached me to stand and I was confident that I will win just like I am feeling in the forthcoming Tripartite elections,” Chipungu said.
On his part, Jonas thanked the constituents for the support he was given during his tenure and assured of total support to Chipungu
Meanwhile, MCP deputy campaign director Njobvuyalema won the primaries with 467 votes beating Edward Chileka Banda who got 26 votes.
