MP Kaliati wants Karafi Contractors forced back over shoddy work on Jali-Phalombe-Chitakale Road: Minister Jappie  ‘not aware’

Mulanje Pasani Member of Parliament (MP) Angie Kaliati—Democratic Progressive Party  (DPP) — has told Parliament that that the former contractor of Jali-Phalombe-Chitakale Road, Karafi Contractors, did a shoddy work.

Kaliati asked Minister of Transport and Public Works Jappie Mhango if  Karafi Contractors can come back to correct their mess.

“ I wanted to find out from the Minister and his ministry, if they are aware that the former contractor of Jali-Phalombe-Chitakale Road, who is Karafi Contractors, created a lot of ditches along the road before he abandoned the project,” asked Kaliati.

“Now, these ditches are filled up with rain waters and have turned to be suicide points.  When people quarrel in their homes, they rush into these places and throw themselves into these waters and the following morning you find that one is dead,” he added.

“  I wanted to find out from the Minister and his ministry, if they can ask this Karafi Contractor to come back and fill up these ditches, so that suicide cases should be avoided in my constituency,” Kaliati asked the Ministers.

Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mhango described the question bu Mulanje Pasani MP  as “very, very interesting” but said  “ unfortunately I am not aware. “

However, Mhango promised to “make an effort” to visit the place in question so that he can appreciate the problem.

“. At that point, I will instruct the new contractor, because the contractor that was there before is no longer there.  We have got a new contractor who is working on that road.  I will then ask him to attend to the ponds that people throw themselves into in order to secure quick death,” said Mhango.
