Makina: Expelled by PP

Makina was suspended as both party member and Parliamentarian a week ago after he fell out with party leaders in his constituency in Zomba district.

And on Monday he was summoned for disciplinary hearing at the party’s headquarters in Limbe, Blantyre but he did not show up, forcing the political party to officially expel him.

When contacted, Makina told the party that he had better things to do in his constituency.

“I have other better things to attend to at my constituency. I cannot waste my time to come for disciplinary hearing; after all I know you want to expel me from the party, just go ahead and do so,” Makina challenged the party officials.

In a letter dated 10th July, 2016 and signed by PP’s Secretary General, Ibrahim Matola, is has been indicated that Makina has been expelled with immediate effect due to his poor working relationship with party grassroots, structures and the constituency leadership in Zomba Ntonya Constituency.

“I regret to inform you that you have been expelled as member of Peoples Party with immediate effect,” reads the letter in part.

“It is regrettable that your working relationship with our party grassroots in Zomba Ntonya Constituency cannot be resolved amicably. Having listened to complaints by the party Constituency leadership and your views on the misunderstandings, it is clear that the sour relationship between you and the party grassroots in Zomba Ntonya Constituency is irreconcilable”.

Makina has since been ordered to return to the party’s Administrative Secretary any party property (s); vehicle (s), materials in his procession as stated in the suspension letter dated 2nd July 2019.

The party’s district and constituency committees had been asking the party to fire Makina for allegedly dumping the party and working with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Alex Namame, PP secretary for Thondwe, George Gumwa, district party governor and Lucy Katumwa, district women’s governor claimed Makina stopped working with PP officials in his constituency and district long ago.
