MP Maquenda Chunga resigns as PP North Malawi chair

Youthful politician and Mzimba South legislator Maquenda Chunga  has resigned as  provincial chairman (PC) for People’s Party (PP) foe for the north.

Chunga: Resigns as PP provincial chairman for northern region

Chunga said he has resigned to concentrate on his constituents and not the party which is weakening by day ahead of the 2019 elections.

“I want to concentrate on the pople who voted for me and not the party,” said Chunga.

Chunga comes from Zakeyo Chunga village, TA Mzikubola in Mzimba district. He joined politics in 2006 whilst in the Diaspora as a member of the DPP wing in USA, and worked with President Bingu wa Mutharika that time. Bingu called him back to Malawi and requested him to contest in Mzimba South as an MP during the 2009 general elections.

He won the primaries under the DPP in 2008 but he was inexplicably barred from representing the party.

“I went on to contest as an independent candidate and did not manage to win because the votes were split giving a chance to a shadow MP for another political party,” he said.

Chunga joined PP  in 2012, and contested again in the same constituency during the 2014 general elections.

“I managed to win under the PP and I am currently serving the people of Mzimba South constituency as their representative in Parliament,” he said.

Chunga said he will remain a PP member and continue to serve the party which he claims to still love.

PP spokesman Noah Chimpeni said he was not aware of the development, saying secretary general Ibrahim Matola could be best placed to comment.

Matola said he was yet to receive the resignation letter.

The best that will come from PP in the next election is to subtract the number of votes from both UDF and DPP especially in Eastern Region ( BALAKA, sympathisers of Lucius Banda-he should not be underrated-voters will vote for him as an MP and MCP for President or for Joice Banda who may get a symphathy vote depending on how she gets handled when she finally shows up; ZOMBA and MACHINGA, PP will still get votes on similar reasons with Balaka). The Dedza yao’s have slready shifted to MCP because of both Gwengwe shift to MCP and alignment of… Read more »
