MP Mpaweni returns to UDF

Balaka Central East MP Yaumi Mpaweni has returned to United Democratic Front (UDF) after joining ruling People’s Party (PP).

Speaker of Parliament Henry Chimunthu Banda said Mpaweni wrote his office to allocate him a seat on the UDF block which is on government side.

The Speaker also read a letter from UDF Chief Whip, Dr. Clement Chiwaya saying the party has “no problems” with Mpaweni and that his decision has been welcomed.

And in his contribution to the budget statement, Mpaweni thanked President Joyce Banda and the Vice-President Khumbo Kachali for presenting a cheque of K21 million that will cater for construction of the maternity shelter and part of the money will be used to procure an ambulance in his constituency.

He told the House that his constituents “are very grateful for the donation that has been made.”

He also hailed the 2012/2013 financial plan, saying “this budget will really make sure that all the problems that were created by the DPP-led government will be sorted out.”

Mpaweni added: “I know we have gone into many problems that we are facing in this country but the Joyce Banda Government has made sure that those mistakes that were made by the DPP will make sure that they are sorted out.”
