MP Navicha praises Mutharika for ‘unprecedented development’ in Thyolo Thava
Thyolo Thava member of Parliament (MP) Mary Thom Navicha (Democratic Progressive Party-DPP) has sing praises to President Peter Mutharika’s commitment to infrastructure development, particulary in Thyolo district.
Making a constituency statement in Parliament, outspoken Navicha commended Mutharika for the “unprecedented development” which her constituents are enjoying.
“On behalf of Thyolo Thava, I say, thank you Mr President and may the good Lord continue blessing you,” said Navicha.
She said her constituents have so many “testimonies” of the various developments that are taking place in the country, Thyolo Thava in particular.
“Mr Speaker, Sir, for years and years, we, the people from Thyolo Thava have always complained about the bad road condition of the Tholo-Makwasa-Thekerani-Muona Road. Thanks to the DPP-led government as the road has now been constructed and the area has now been opened further to development activities,” she pointed out.
However, she asjed e Minister responsible to consider upgrading Njale-Kabayi via Mkhathe East Bank Road to tarmac standard as it is “a shortest route” to Chikwawa from Thyolo.
“In addition, I wish to request for the improvement of Mulenga-Kasaila Road in order to open up the hilly area through which it passes,” she asked.
Navicha said there has been several public works activities in Thyolo Thava since 2014 to date.
“ I would also like to thank government for the construction of Namiyawa Warehouse which is now on finishing stage. This warehouse will be serving the people of the constituency to stock their farm produce before they are sold.
“Mr Speaker, Sir, let me also thank the government for ensuring that, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is properly funded and as a result, I have managed to construct 12 new classroom blocks, bridges and so many things,” Navicha said in her statement.
She asked the Minister of Education to consider assisting Thyolo Thava Constituency with learning materials such as desks, chairsand the school feeding programmes in the area of Senior Chief Mphuka and T.A Khwethemule.
Navicha also thanked government for the establishment of Mtambanyama Skills Development Centre and community colleges which has benefited over 400 youths in Thyolo Thava who have been trained in such trades like; welding, brick laying and tailoring and designing.
“In view of that, I wish to ask the government to consider a full community college in my constituency,” she asked government.
On health issues, Navicha commended government for the development that is taking place in the health sector but appealed to the Minister of Health Atupele Muluzi to visit her constituency “ in order to appreciate a number of health related challenges especially considering that the area does not have a public facility.”
She mentioned and thanked various development partners in her constituency like Eastern Produce, Malamulo Mission, Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM), Camfed, Beam Trust, Mota Engil and Blantyre Synod.
