Parliamentarian for Chiradzulu Central, Mahomed Hanif Osman has pledged to construct a K3 million house for Group Village Head Kamitete, who is one of the descendants of freedom fighter Reverend John Chilembwe.
Osman, widely known as OG Issa, made the pledged when he visited Kamitete, born Daina Nankhumwa last Saturday.
Katete’s house fell due to heavy rains last year, hence the parliamentarian’s pledge to construct another house, which he said, will be ready by June 1 this year.
“Chilembwe is one if the country’s freedom fighters whose freedom Malawians enjoy today and his descendants need to be cared for.
“I know she has been looking up to government for assistance, but i thought helping her as government alone cannot meet and provide shelters to everyone especially in this era where there are social and economic woes,” said Osman, who has also been distributing relief items to communities in the area.
He claimed that it was his duty to ensure that Chilembwe’s descendants and other privileged communities are taken care of.
The parliamentarian pledged to continue providing support to affected families to ease challenges they are going through and making sure they become economically independent.
“I will continue carrying out charity activities and other programs targeting the needy regardless of their political and religious affiliations,” he emphasized.
On her part, Group Village Head Katete hailed the parliamentarian for coming to her rsscue and also appealed to government to assist more people in the area who were affected but have not yet received assistance.
